Gooii digital agency is working with Connecting Cambridgeshire and the CORE project to bring a real-time Augmented Reality Experience to Cambridge Corn Exchange – and we need YOUR help to make it happen.

We’re searching for local musicians and bands, with original songs, to be part of a trial to test a cutting-edge 5G technology network involving Augmented Reality at the Cambridge Corn Exchange.

Not only will you get to perform on this legendary stage and raise your profile by taking part in this exciting project, you could also be immortalised as one of the first musicians to perform in Augmented Reality!

So, if you’ve ever dreamt of having the chance to perform on stage at one of Cambridge’s most iconic and historical venues, stepping out on the stage where the likes of Queen, David Bowie, Biffy Clyro, Little Simz and Amy Winehouse have all stepped before, then get in touch today!

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and we’re looking for a variety of musicians or bands to take part. This will be a paid gig – check out the FAQs below for more info.

To apply, please send a YouTube video of a live performance of your music to: contact@connectingcambridgeshire.co.uk

Will we get paid?

Yes. We can offer a day or half day rate, depending on how log filming may take. Please contact us for details.

When will the performance take place?

The event will be filmed in February 2025 – date to be confirmed. We will also need to do a rehearsal recording in January 2025. We can plan this with you.

Will I/we be performing to a live audience?

Yes. There will be a live audience.

Are you only looking for one musician or band?

We are hoping to speak to a selection of bands and/or musicians but may choose to record just one artist / band, or possibly up to four, over a couple of days, depending on availability.

Can I/we perform cover songs?

No, we want you to perform your own original material please.

How long will it take?

Depending how many people/ bands are selected, we may need to film over one half day or a full day (a weekday, NOT at the weekend), most-likely within the hours of 9am-5pm. We will discuss this with you and can accommodate your availability.

Will I/we be listed as having performed at the Corn Exchange?

This is a private, invite-only event, so may not listed on the Corn Exchange website before it happens – but we will be speaking about the event after it takes place as part of the Cambridgeshire Open RAN Ecosystem project so everyone will know that you performed there.

What is the Cambridgeshire Open RAN Ecosystem project?

Funded by the Department for Science, Innovation & Technology (DSIT), the Cambridgeshire Open RAN Ecosystem (CORE) project will help accelerate the deployment of 5G across the UK, using innovative technologies such as Augmented Reality to test the network. Find out more here.

Can we promote the event beforehand to let people know we’re taking part?

As this is a private, invite-only event we’ll be promoting it so you’re welcome to like and share the messaging we send out to encourage your fans, friends and family to apply to attend. But we will ask that you keep some of what happens under wraps until we’re ready to talk about the technology. There will be plenty opportunities to promote your involvement in the CORE project after the event has taken place.

What size bands are you looking for?

We’re looking for bands with max 5 members. Larger bands can apply but you may need to reduce your members for this gig.

Are you only looking for rock musicians / bands?

No! Rock, folk, punk, metal, dance, jazz etc. We’re open to all types of music.

What level of experience do we need?

This is open to all levels of experience but as we’re working with new technologies, having previous experience of performing live is required.

This sounds great but what to wear?

Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable! There may be some clothing colour restrictions which we can talk about with the successful applicants.

Can I record the gig and share it to social media?

Videoing the event will not be possible.

What will the gig be like?

Think of it as a cross between a live gig and a music video. There will be a video director onsite too to help with your performances. We want you to do your thing but you will also need to take some simple direction to make the most of your performance.

Is there a Ryder?

No, Sam Ryder is unlikely to attend.

How do I apply or find out more info?

To apply please send us a YouTube video of a live performance of your music, and your contact details, along with any questions, to: contact@connectingcambridgeshire.co.uk
